Getting Started

How do I use voice commands?

Simply open the app and speak a command clearly toward your device. Hey Cameraman is always listening while the app is active. You don't need to tap anything — just say commands like:

  • "Take a photo" — captures a photo
  • "Start recording" — begins a video
  • "Stop recording" — ends a video
  • "Zoom in" / "Zoom out" — adjusts zoom level
  • "Switch camera" — flips between front and rear cameras
  • "Flash on" / "Flash off" — controls the flash
  • "Set timer" — activates the self-timer

What permissions does the app need?

Hey Cameraman requires the following permissions to function:

  • Camera — to display the live preview and capture photos/videos
  • Microphone — to listen for voice commands and record video audio
  • Speech Recognition — to convert your spoken words into commands
  • Photo Library — to save captures and display your recent gallery

If you accidentally denied a permission, go to Settings → Hey Cameraman on your iPhone and enable each permission.

Common Issues

The app isn't responding to my voice commands

  • Make sure the Microphone and Speech Recognition permissions are both enabled in Settings.
  • Speak clearly and at a normal pace, directly toward the device.
  • Reduce background noise if possible — loud environments can interfere with recognition.
  • Try closing and reopening the app to restart the speech recognition session.
  • Ensure your device is running iOS 16 or later.

My photos/videos aren't saving

  • Check that Photo Library access is enabled in Settings → Hey Cameraman.
  • Make sure your device has available storage space.
  • Try force-quitting the app and relaunching it.

The camera preview is black or frozen

  • Confirm Camera permission is granted in Settings.
  • Close the app fully and reopen it.
  • Restart your iPhone if the issue persists.

Voice feedback / spoken confirmations aren't working

Hey Cameraman can speak back confirmation of commands. If you don't hear responses, check that your device volume is not muted (check the mute/ringer switch on the side of your iPhone) and that the Voice Feedback setting is enabled inside the app.

In-App Purchases & Hey Cameraman Pro

What does the free version include?

The free version gives you access to the full core feature set, including photo capture, video recording, camera switching, flash control, exposure/focus control, lens selection, stabilization, and gallery navigation. A small number of features (voice zoom and self-timer) have limited free uses.

What does Hey Cameraman Pro unlock?

Hey Cameraman Pro ($9.99 one-time purchase) unlocks unlimited access to all features, including unlimited voice zoom and unlimited self-timer uses. It's a lifetime purchase — no subscription, no recurring charges.

How do I restore a previous purchase?

If you've already purchased Pro and need to restore it after reinstalling or switching devices, tap "Restore Purchase" on the upgrade screen inside the app. Restoration is free and instant.

How do I request a refund?

All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. To request a refund, please contact Apple directly at reportaproblem.apple.com. We are unable to process refunds directly.

Privacy

Hey Cameraman is built with a strict no-data-collection policy. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information, audio recordings, or media. All processing happens entirely on your device. For full details, read our Privacy Policy.

Device Compatibility

  • Platform: iPhone (iOS)
  • Minimum iOS: iOS 16.0 or later
  • On-device speech recognition is available on iPhone models with Apple Silicon (A12 Bionic and later). Older supported devices may use Apple's servers for speech processing, subject to Apple's privacy policy.
