No. Hey Cameraman uses Apple's on-device speech recognition. All processing happens locally on your iPhone — no Wi-Fi or cellular data required for voice commands. Internet is only used for the initial App Store purchase.
Listening is active while the app is open and in the foreground. You can toggle it off anytime using the microphone button on screen. When you close the app, listening stops completely. We never listen in the background.
Never. Speech recognition is 100% on-device using Apple's Speech framework. Audio is processed in real-time and immediately discarded. No recordings are saved or transmitted to any server — not ours, not anyone's.
An optional personalisation feature. Set any name in Settings (e.g. "Max") and Hey Cameraman will only respond to commands prefixed with that name — "Max, zoom in full". It's like having a personal cameraman on call who only responds to you. Free users get a 5-minute trial; Pro unlocks it forever.
The app uses natural language matching, so slight variations are fine. If a command doesn't register, the hint bubble shows example phrasings. You can also view the full command list by tapping the chevron icon in the top bar.
